HIGH-PRECISION EXTENSOMETERS FOR MATERIAL TESTING

Often different methods need to be combined to accurately describe material properties and influencing parameters. Extensometers are essential here. They assure direct measurement as well as monitoring of strain and crack depth at a preselected area of the material specimens.

Since the extensometers are in direct contact with the material specimen, they must be capable of satisfying the extremely diverse test conditions to which the material specimen itself is exposed. The most important test conditions, which may occur in almost any combination, demonstrate that an extensometer must exhibit a number of properties.
